Zandile Ntobela, a member of the Mpondo Xhosa, was born in 1986 in Bizana in the Eastern Cape. She lives at the Ubuhle farm where she beads, but she considers her true ancestral home to be in Bizana where her mother lives.
Zandile is an accomplished beader and one of the community’s most successful artists. The annual flowering of the ornamental Japanese cherry tree in the garden of Little Farm has been a major source of inspiration for Zandile, and she has invented a pattern to represent these flowers. It appears as the signature of her work.
